AHAIN is pleased to announce Lana Trammell as the 2013 AHAIN Ralph E. Biggs Scholarship recipient.
Lana is a resident of Heather Heights, a Dominion Realty property in Martinsville. She previously served as a board member of the Heather Heights Community Committee.
Lana attends Ivy Tech Community College in Bloomington, and is working toward an Associate’s degree in accounting. One of her letters of recommendation cites her desire to learn in the classroom, for the benefit of learning and not just for a letter grade.
In her essay for the scholarship application on the topic, “Why housing is an essential right,” Lana describes the importance of affordable housing in furthering her education, especially as a single mother. And, she explained her dedication to the community she calls home.
“…I never would be able to have this opportunity if I did not have assistance on my rent,” Lana wrote. “I would love to have the opportunity to do more volunteer work at the apartments.”
The Ralph E. Biggs Scholarship will provide for $750 per semester, for a total of $1,500 per academic year, provided the recipient remains a full time student with a B average.
As the scholarship winner, Lana will be recognized at the 2013 Affordable Housing Conference on November 13-14 at the Indianapolis Marriott North.
