News from Rural Development (RD)

We have good news concerning unused Rental Assistance (RA). For a trial period of one year beginning May 2016, states will be permitted to exercise RA transfer authority for unused RA, as outlined in HB-2-3560, Section 8.8 A5. Previously, this authority was held at the National Office level. Unused RA is RA that has not been used in the last six months.

For clarification purposes, RA units from properties that leave the Rural Development portfolio through prepayment, foreclosure, or natural maturity are not unused RA units. Those RA units and associated obligation balances will continue to be recaptured by the National Office for use by the Administrator.

Owners/Agents should monitor their RA usage and contact the applicable Area Office concerning RA that qualifies to be transferred. Unused RA that is not addressed by Owners/Agents, will be subject to recapture and reassignment by Rural Development Indiana.

The Indiana RD MFH Staff would like to congratulate this year’s Site Manager/Maintenance Person of the Year winners. The winners are: (1) Debbie Hawkins, Village Apartments of Seymour I, Family Housing, (2) Juanita Wolfe, Hillview Senior Apartments, Corydon, Elderly Housing and (3) Jack Gibbens, Village Apartments of Brazil, Maintenance Person. These individuals truly deserve this recognition and we thank all Owners/Agents who submitted nominations.

In other news, we are reassigning 3 Counties to different Area Offices. This is being done to help even out the caseload. Effective August 1, 2016: Carroll County is being moved from the Knox Area Office to the Crawfordsville Area Office, Fulton County is being moved from the Knox Area Office to the Columbia City Area Office and Washington County is being moved from the

North Vernon Area Office to the Jasper Area Office. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your patience and understanding during this transition.

Finally, we are happy to announce that Kimberly Hyde is the new MFH Specialist in our Bloomfield Area Office. Prior to coming to MFH, Kim was a Single Family Housing Specialist in our Jasper Area Office.  We look forward to working with Kim and wish her the best in her new position.
