In an announcement made yesterday by Doug O’Brien, Deputy Undersecretary for Rural Development, Tony Hernandez has been named as the new Rural Housing Service Administrator. Please click here for a copy of the announcement, which includes Mr. Hernandez’s biography.

Kevin Flynn, CARH’s President; Katie Alitz, CARH’s Past-President; Tanya Eastwood, CARH’s Board of Director member; Todd Fentress, CARH member Clark Schaefer Hackett; and Colleen Fisher, CARH’s Executive Director met Mr. Hernandez yesterday as the Bipartisan Policy Center’s Housing Commission hosted a roundtable on multifamily rural housing issues. Among the many issues discussed at this roundtable, was funding for the Section 521 Rental Assistance (RA) program in Fiscal Year 2014 and beyond. Senator Kit Bond, former Senator from Missouri and a member of the Housing Commission presided over the roundtable. In addition to RD officials and representatives from CARH, other housing groups, as well as practioners in the field participated in this event.

CARH looks forward to working with the new Administrator and all Rural Development staff.
